Upgrade Blackberry Professional Software to Blackberry Enterprise Server Express

I am currently running Blackberry Professional Software 4.1. I have 15 Blackberries running on this.

My email server is running Exchange 2007. My server is Windows Server 2008.

All was good with the software until my users started experiencing the loss of their OOF messages 20 minutes after activating them in OWA 2007.

Apparently there is a patch that fixes this for BES, but the Blackberry Professional Software seems to be stuck at version 4.1.

Therefore, is it recommended to upgrade to Blackberry Enterprise Server Express, and if so, is there an easy way to migrate all the settings (ie, db data)?

Is there anything that I should be careful about before doing such an upgrade? My employers will not be very happy if there is considerable downtime due to this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, there is no upgrade path to BES Express.  You can install BESX on another server and manually delete them from the current BES > wipe the device > add\activate them on the new BES.  If you need to use the same server you need to delete all the users from the BES > uninstall BPS > Install BESX > wipe the devices > activate them on the new server.

Ok thanks. I can definitely install it on another machine.

Would I lose any features if I change to BESX? Is it a better solution than Blackberry Professional 4.1?

You can install BESX onto another server (as long as it isn't a terminal server in application mode) and you will get a number of new features such as HTML email.  The new web interface takes a little getting use to but give it a few hours and you will get the hang of it.
