It's official, experts, I am crying UNCLE!
Tonight marks my 3rd straigt evening doing something that is so simple in VMWARE. Manager my guest machines.
I installed the FREE Hyper V Server 2008 R2 addition on a new server. Easy, took 30 mnutes. After locating and attempting to install numerous different Hyper V managment installation files, learning that the Managment snapin will NOT run in Vista Home (1 evening wasted). Would be nice if MSFT would make this part far easier!
Ok, so I hijacked my family's Vista Media Center, 64 bit, and got the snap in installed, running, etc. Great, untill my wife wants to watch the news! (2nd evening)
So, (3rd Evening) I installed a virtual Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 on top of my HyperV server, that I would like to use to replace my Server 2003 Enterprise edition, and to manage my Hypervisor Server 2008 R2 box.
I am unable to locate an install file for Server 2008, yet I read that it is availble as a snapin for Vista and Server 2008.
Any pointers would be GREATLY appriciated!
If Microsoft made this process as simple as setting up a WHS connector, it would be a vast improvement. Why not siimply do a \\HyperV\tools\setup.exe and have it examine the platform, and do the managment tool install automatically. Am I missing something?
