Mail Delivery failure - Domain over storage limit!

Access to <user mailbox> not allowed by rule  - Domain over storage limit!

Any mail sent to a certain eMail box on our Exchange 2003 SP2 server gets a bounce-back with the error as above. Here is the rest (names have been changes to protect the innocent):

Diagnostic-Code: smtp;  550 5.7.1 <senders mailbox> Access to <users mailbox> not allowed by rule  - Domain over storage limit!

Also, limit settings, both global and local, are eliminated. The user mailbox is about 1.2GB. Mail sent to all other mailboxes goes through OK.

Sounds like you checked ESM global settings, but what about the specific users' storage limits specified in AD? EXCHANGE GENERAL tab | STORAGE button.

Thanks, but yes. We have checked specific storage limits. And the mailbox is not over limit in any case.

How bout exporting mailbox to PST, deleting the mailbox, recreating it, and then importing the PST. It's extreme, but if you say you've checked storage limit settings in ESM and AD for that user account and it checks out then there could be something wrong with the mailbox. Shouldn't take you too long to just recreate a the mailbox anyway. Probably less time than trying to dissect the actual problem.
