Windows 7 Sound Drivers for Asus A8V-VM SE motherboard

Having gone to the trouble of using the Windows 7 compatibility wizard to check for potential issues, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on my pc which is based around the A8V-VM SE motherboard. It was only afterwards that I found the motherboard is not supported by ASUS for Windows 7 and I discover that the onboard sound is not working. Windows 7 loads up the drivers with a generic "High-Definition Audio Device". It should be a Realtek device

I have tried the Vista drivers to no avail.

Is there any way that I can get this working or do I need to either rollback to XP or get a new mobo?

Thanks, I spotted that but there is a $30 charge for the software and no guarantee that they have the driver I need.

Thanks for the help but I have tried them both and they give the error "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code :0x00000103]"

Also tried installing manually by 'Updating Driver' and browsing to the .inf file but it states that the driver is already up to date.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

I've had problems in the past with Windows 7 and Sound drivers.... The way I've solved them is by "tinkering" with the sound settings in the Control Panel ... most of the problems were because of "disabled" settings or just selecting another setting and the sound works.
The best way to test... Go to msnbc.msn.com and select any video.... let it run while you tinker with the settings... If you select the right one you will "Hear" it immediately.

Unfortunately there is not much more I can advise you to do since Asus does not have the Windows 7 drivers on their website for your model.
Do you have any yellow exclamation marks in the device manager?

Cheers - but because I have "No audio output device installed" there is nothing to tinker with.

There is an exclamation mark over an unknown device but that is under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.............

Ok .... you need to download the chipset drivers for Windows 7. Unfortunately they are not available at the Asus support website.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Your motherboard is socket 939.
As you can see from the screenshot below and the attached manual on page 82, this motherboard does not support Vista or Windows 7.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of the bad news but other than this, you would require a hack (finding a driver for something else that may work) and expect all sorts of other problems.

I suspected as much (and had already discovered that the mobo was not supported) but thought I'd see if anyone else had come across this issue and overcome it - that's why I posted this question.....

Thanks for your help and all the best

Yes... it's not what we both wanted to hear but it is the only answer. It's not supported.... but we did give it a fight .... lol.

Update - I downloaded a free trial of a program called DriverMax and through that, downloaded and installed Realtek 6.0.1.6043 drivers and unbelievably the sound is now working.

Very pleased.
