Transposing variables in an input file in SAS that do not have numeric suffix

I have a group of fields in a SAS input dataset.  When trying to transpose the fields I get an error message that the fields do not have a numeric suffix.  The fields are concatenated one next to the other. I have 33 fields in total.  What is the most efficient way to transpose these fields. An example of the names are p_q2a p_q2b p_q2c etc.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
