Content type with a renamed Title column

I need to create a new content type based on Item parent content type. In this new content type I need to rename the Title column to something else. It seems to me that when I do that it renames parent as well. Is that correct or am I doing something wrong? Is there any workaround for that?

If not is it possible to make a different column linked to an item's detail as the title is?

Thanks

You are right, renaming the title column will change in the parent content type as it is being inherited from the parent which means its derived from the parent. A workaround for your requirement can be to create another column a calculated column type and in the formula section of creating the column select the [Title] column, this will work, as this new column will always reflect the value in the title column.

Actually the best workaround is to create a content type with a default Title column and then rename it on the list level. It will provide a renamed column just for that list leaving the content type and its parent parent intact.
