How to set MTU size on Linux Enterprise Server 9

How do I lower MTU size on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9?  This is needed for troubleshooting the fragmentation problems.

Will this result in a permanent change, or until the next reboot, like ip link set dev eth0 mtu 1400?
In order for the MTU change to be presistent across reboot, you must update configuration files.  

The files for the ethernet adpaters are located here on SuSE 9.


For example if you are referring to the first ethernet port it would be etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
