Visual Basic 6 IDE and Windows 7

Experts,

I'm using my VB6 IDE with Windows 7 for the first time.  The program keeps shutting down and random times, giving me the message that the program "is no longer working".

Is there a servce pack I need to download?  Anyone else run into this?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I installed the service pack and now I get more errors than I did before.  I got "can't access the system registry" twice, and I got errors on most of the forms when they tried to load.
What's going on?

The IDE still blows up for no reason.  I guess it's time to run it in XP Mode?

Have you tried to run the ide in administrative mode.
If you run the ide in xp mode certain problem may occur.Like when you try to detect os verson, you will get xp as version.Becoz you had selected xp in compatibility mode

How do I run the IDE in administrative mode?

Right click the vb6.exe to grant administrative privileges
Go to Properties –> Compatibility Tab
At the end of the compatibility tab, you will find the following check box:
Run this program as an administrator
Just check the check box and click OK and then again OK.
This will grant administrative privileges to that program.
