"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you're having to ask such a question I wouldn't bother as there is more to this than simply securing the data.  Take a look at https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/security_standards/pci_dss.shtml which describes the principles you should be implementing if you desire to process and store CC details via your site.

Simply put, if you'll be better off using a merchant for this sort of activity.  Many provide integrated systems that will not look out of place within your site.
