can not play .wmv file to its full length
I am downloading .wmv files from very trusted sources on daily basis, some of the files do not play to its full extents, for example if I download 50MB file id hardly play for 1 minute 30 seconds. I tried it to play on more than one computer but same problem. I use Windows Media player and Windows 7 Ultimate. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
It is possible that the file has used the remainder of the time for other data. For instance, a 3 minute song may be carrying the equivalent of 30 seconds data with it. The song would be truncated to fit the equivalent of 30 seconds data with it. Other data may include things such as song name, artist, id number, album name, record label, CD cover art, etc.
have you been told by the sender that they have this fix length of play time? like 10 minutes and its playing just 1 minute?
and its not necessary that if you have 50mb of file it shold play for long time!

Have you tried downloading it again?

All,
Thanks for reply, There is a daily live telecast of program on one of the website and , on daily basis, after the live telecast, they put the recording files of that telecast till next day's live telecast (so I cannot re-download them), I use to download the recording files on daily basis and I know for sure, that those faulty files has to be of more than 55-60 minutes, because I saw them while live, and also some of the other files with almost similar size are playing for 55-60 minutes (As it is not happening with all files but some of them).
Now, chances are there those files are uploaded as faulty (which I do not understand because bits wise it looks okay), and also I do not have anycontact information to ask them as it is free service and cannot re-download too, as it changes on daily basis.
So just want to know from you experts, is there any way I can repair those files to its original extent? Or those files are indeed faulty?

Not sure it this will work on 7 but in XP I'd use the Windows Media File Editor to re-index the file as it's probably the timing that is corrupted (although you may have lost some frames too)

Masqueraid,
When I try to insert that file to Windows Medi File Editor I get following message -
"It is not possible to open the specified file. The file type may not be supported or the file may be digitally protected."
any idea here ?
The file is .wmv and I can successfully open it in Windows Media Player, the only issue is it plays only for small time.

As soon as I try to add the "problem" file it gives me following screen (attached here with) . You are correct, It does not occurs while adding other , good .wmv files (which are working good). it just goes through as you described. Only occurs while adding that particular problem file.
And when I choose NO, it gives me error
" The format of [file path] can't be recognized!!"
Any idea..

Looks like he container is damaged enough that it's not possible for the utility to recognise the file format. It may be possible to extract the frames that are intact individually but it's also likely that there is a lot of frame damage as well as the timing track problem. Unless it is vital to recover the data I'd suggest this might be a good point to quit as there's a lot of time involved in recovering the useul data manually. It may be more valuable looking at how the file becamse corrupted in the first place (or even if the original source was faulty) & preventing this is the future.
