dell sp2208wfp monitor audio issues

Hello Experts,
I just purchased a new Dell SP2208WFP with a Dell Sound Bar (Multimedia Speaker) all the functions as web cam and audio recording works perfect.

But I connected the sound bar to the monitor audio output and no sound at all.

The sound bar is powered from the monitor either and turns on without problem

My OS is Xp SP2

Is the monitor in somehow connected to the pc? If not, you need to plug the monitor audio in into the pc for the monitor audio out to drive the sound bar.
Better solution: Plug the sound bar audio in to the pc and leave the monitor out of it completely.
if normal speakers work out of your pc audio out - then your pc audio is ok.
you can try and plug an mp3 player etc into the audio in of the soundbar to test it.
otherwise I would guess it is either faulty or you havent connected the audio in of the soundbar to the audio out of your PC (normally green socket)

I had one of these, in order to get audio from the port on the monitor you have to use an HDMI connection that has audio. There is no other way as it lacks an audio in port.

Unfortunately the only way to obtain audio it`s using the hdmi port as jamietoner and ivanviola  suggested.

Now the issue is to know wich audio card were installed at the system, I bought it 4 years ago and the invoice does not mention anything about the sound card.

Using PC properties there is a question mark at the audio card

I needed to retore a fresh xp system two weeks ago and this was something that I oversee.

How may I identify the sound card installed? because using my service tag there are some versions offered by dell

Try using System Information Utility. It gives you a lot of info about you computer.
