I would like people's recommendations for a great video player for windows. I'm willing to pay for it, as I've used the free ones and they have significant shortcomings.
I've used VLC and it handles a ton of formats, and has variable speed playback. Those are things I want in my player. However, it has no granularity when scrubbing. If I have a 30+ minute video and I want to jump forward a little, I can't. Wherever I press it either jumps backwards or forwards by a significant margin, like a few minutes. It also loses the picture quality when you jump. I really hate that. Additionally, there is no keyboard control.
Quicktime is great at scrubbing and has high quality playback, but doesn't have variable speed playback and only handles a small number of file formats. Windows Media Player has good quality but also has lots of annoying features (press too quickly on the pause button and it takes the video out of full screen).
The features I really want are:
High quality playback
Variable speed play
Large variety of recognized video formats
Ability to control playback via keyboard
