Microsoft Messenger for Mac doesn't remember nickname

I'm running Microsoft Messenger for Mac 7 on Mac OS X 10.6. Out of a sudden it doesn't remember my Nickname and just shows my e-mail address instead. Everytime I change it and restart the application, it reverts back.

I tried to reinstall Messenger and reinstalling Mac OS X (clean install). I've also tried the beta of Messenger 8, and that version has the same problem. It works fine in other applications like Adium, but I want to use Microsoft Messenger. What could be the cause of the problem?

Unfortunately that's for the Yahoo Messenger. The Microsoft Messenger doesn't have such an option.
Sorry bout that.
All I can think it could be is that all  Messenger even Windows Live uses your email address as the account name, I just take out the email address in my client and replace it with my nickname. So when I logon it shows my email address but once logged on it shows my Nickname in the comments box.

I tried changing the nickname, but when I log back on it's gone, and changed back again. It even forgets any custom Personal Message that I set.
Hmm, when settings wont stick could fall into 2 areas
are you in the personal contacts window or the corporate contacts window
Try updating it

I'm using the Personal contacts window. Also tried upgrading to the new versio 8, but no result. A friend of mine seems to have the same problem.

In that case I'll wait until the new Messenger 8 gets out of beta. Thanks everyone :)
