Install Error installing Exchange 2007 SP2

Trying to install Service Pack 2 for Exchange 2007.

The prerequisite checklist was completed sucessfully. However when the install starts it fails on the first line item and tells me to check the log for details. When I check the log I find...

Entry DN: CN=ms-Exch-Resource-Schema,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=bnr,DC=com
Add error on line 180: No Such Attribute
The server side error is "The parameter is incorrect."
An error has occurred in the program

Any suggestions on how to remedy this issue?

Yea this is a common issue

   1. run adsiedit.msc,
   2. Connect to schema partition
   3. right-click CN=ms-Exch-Resource-Schema, CN=Schema, CN=Configuration, DC=Domain, DC=COM, and then click Properties.
   4. In the Attribute field, locate the mayContain attribute.
   5. Check the lDAPDisplayName of "ms-Exch—Resource-Property-Schema, CN=Configuration, DC=Domain, DC=COM."
   6. If the lDAPDisplayName shows "DUP-msExchResourcePropertySchema-GUID, change the DUP-msExchResourcePropertySchema-GUID value to msExchResourcePropertySchema.
   6. Force Active Directory directory service replication.

Akhater,

Thanks for the quick reply. When I remove the 'dup' value you noted and then add msExchResourcePropertySchema it appears to go ok. However, when I click ok it states 'the parameter is incorrect'.

Maybe do I need to add the GUID to the end of this variable?

I am having no luck (clearly I am missing something).

I have to run some errands now anyhow. Maybe later please provide more detail (?).

I can tell you that I tried (at least I think I did) to search the entire schema for the 'dup' entry. It only retrun the same location that you originally noted.

Sorry I am missing the point on this one, but clearly there is something I am not doing correctly.

please note two different entries ms-exch-resource-schema & ms-exch-resource-property-schema ar u looking in both? in which r you trying to change?

Originally I was only looking in ms-exch-resource-schema. Giving your posting I also checked ms-exch-resource-property-schema. I only find the 'may contain' line item within the original location (ms-exch-resource-schema).

I have to run out now and do some errands (before my wife kills me :). Looks like you are out too. We have a dialogue going (which I appreciate). So we can catch up later.

Thanks.

Wow! You were right. The KB was confusing.

Now that you explained it I see where I was going wrong. Thanks.

It looks like the update is moving forward much better now (at first I forgot to force AD replication. I went back and did it and things look like they are rolling along).

Now maybe I will get to install rollup update #2 after SP2 completes (which what I am trying to complete to address an error in the app log :)

Thanks for the details resolution!
