We rolled back the packages to their original versions but cannot connect any new ssh sessions.

We need access to this box remotely ASAP.   Any suggestions or help is GREATLY appreciated.  Our linux admin is out for medical reasons and we have limited resources.

Thank you.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Do you have the console of the server? If yes,can you login and check :
#/etc/init.d/sshd status

It should be running.

If not,
# /etc/init.d/sshd restart

Similarly do,
#/etc/init.d/xinetd status
If not running,
# /etc/init.d/xinetd restart

Then try :
#ssh -l <userid> 0
(If it asks for password, enter the password for the userid and it should then login)
After this ,you can try to do ssh to do this system from outside also.

If still errors, kindly let me know.

Meanwhile other tests you can do in addition to the above:

Is system pinging other system .ie. whether on LAN or not:

#ping <any host>

if it is pinging then fine, you can try to ssh it

There can be further so many causes for not getting ssh connectivity. Once reaching the site, we can troubleshoot further.Hope that won't be reqd..

Any updates ?

we were able to resolve this via an open ssh session on another workstation - where the yup update was originally interrupted.
# /etc/init.d/sshd restart
and we were able to connect.

Thank you.
