How to configure trixbox to use smtp.google.com

How do I configure trixbox to send voicemail notifications. I have googled this topic a lot and find a number of promising articles, but they all seem to be missing some vital information.

Following some of these articles I installed sendmail; the maillog entries are below.

I told sendmail to use smtp.google.com.

I installed webmin - the interfaces there are overwhelming - again insufficient guidance available.

I suspect authentication is the issue - how do I specify the gmail password.

Or should I use a different smtp server? Is one built in toTrixbox?

Ramrom,

Sendmail is a very bloated application and not very user intuitive. I'm currently using google's SMTP server with ssmtp and it works great.

* If you are using Debian, you can find it here: http://packages.debian.org/source/sid/ssmtp
* If you are using Fedora/Redhat/CentOS, you can install it this way:
    rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-3.noarch.rpm
    yum install ssmtp

* Then change in your voicemail.conf:

    mailcmd=/usr/sbin/ssmtp -t

* And the ssmt.conf will look like:

    mailhub=smtp.gmail.com
    hostname=your_asterisk_server_hostname
    AuthUser=username@gmail.com
    AuthPass=googlepassword
    root=user@example.com
    usetls=yes

Hope it works for you too !
