Installing Exchange 2007 with SP1 in a Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Enterprise Virtual Enviroment

I am having trouble installing Exchange 2007 in Hyper-V.  I have not enabled IVP6 which I found E2K7 relies on, just saw this prior to making this post.

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Enterprise, I have created a Virtual 2008 R2 server to install Exchange 2007 with SP1

I have downloaded the ISO of Exchange Server 2007 64bit  with SP1 and re-downloaded another iso (over 5GB in size) .

I have completed installing the prereqs such as IIS, .net etc.

Ran Exchange Setup
I get to "Copying Files" and it errors out with this:

Installing product F:\exchangeserver.msi failed. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603. Last error reported by the MSI package is 'Error reading from file F:\Setup\ServerRoles\Mailbox\address\smtp\amd64\inproxy.dll.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.'.

I checked the iso(loaded as a virtual DVD) and the file exists.

Any thoughts

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Exchange 2007 will not install in Windows 2008 R2 it's not currently supported.
This will change with Exchange 2007 Service Pack 3 later in the year.

Great general article

Does not have the Unified  Messaging server role installed. All Exchange 2007 server roles, except  for the Unified Messaging role, are supported in a virtualization  environment.

Virtual disks that dynamically expand are not supported by  Exchange.

Virtual disks that use differencing or delta mechanisms  (such as Hyper-V's differencing VHDs or snapshots) are not supported.

like demazter said R2 is not supported as yet. You can, however, install Exch 2k7 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 (VM or physical).

I was under the impression that Exchange 2007 with sp1 could be installed  on  a HV machine running Windows 2008 R2 Server. Is Exchange 2007 only supported on Win 2K3 Server, what about E2K10 and Win 2K8 R2 Server.

Thanks

Exchange 2007 can only be installed on Windows 2003 64 bit or Windows 2008 64bit

Exchange 2010 does support Windows 2008 R2
