Esx 3.5 mounting cd failing for updating

I am trying to update esx 3.5 from 4 to 5 for 64 bit support. I downloaded the updates and burned them onto a cd. The problem is I don't seem to be able to mount the cd.
I have tried mount /dev/cdrom and several variants. All have given me errors and mention missing in mtab and fstab.

ESX 3.5 is a 32-Bit Hypervisor which supports 64-Bit Virtual Machines.

In order to update from ESX 3.5 Update 4 to Update 5, you can use the command esxupdate from the ssh console.

All you need to do is
1.shut down your Virtual Machines,
2.put your host in Maintenance Mode,
3.use puTTy to connect to ESX Host using ssh,
4.login as a normal user, sudo as root,
5.execute esxupdate and complete the upgrade.

But I still have the same issue. Esxupdate still requires me to connect to a repository or to download the image. So Its back to finding a way to mount a cd within esx or another way to get the image in.

dont you just put the cd into the server and reboot and boot from the cd

This was close. The only additional item needed was a program like scp
to copy the data and expand it on the server. Once I got this working
it worked great.
