Enabling Relay on Exchange Gateway?

Good Day All,

I have been tasked with enabling relay on our Exchange Gateway Server v6.5  to allow SMTP messages to be delivered externally from our network.  Needless to say I am not an Exchange or email tech normally,  but I am the only one around to do it right now, so I have not a clue as to how to do this, or how to test it to make sure it is working.  Could one of you Exchange guru's out there give me the quick and dirty steps to do this and test it.             Thanks.....

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
