Remove View permission in SharePoint 2003 site

We have a 2003 SharePoint site to be used as a document uploading area for many contributors under a single login. I am trying to find out if it is possible to supress the ability to view files in SharePoint:

For this site, Contributors are not supposed to be allowed to view any uploaded files. I thought the problem was solved by implementing document approval, but it is still posisible to view the files under the Contributor login. When the Add items permission is selected in the Edit Site Group "Contributor" screen, the permission to View Items and to View Pages are both auto-selected. Is there a way to setup the site to allow the Contributor group permission to add items only?

I've been able to strip out most everything (including the vertical Quick Links menu - see the attached file) from the login home page & if the only option available was to upload a document, this might still work, but the option to add a new document appears inside a General Documents web part. If one clicks on General Documents, a new vertical menu opens allowing a View selection &  Actions selections. Beyond that, there is the top link bar that offers options that we do not want available to the contributor login.

Thank you for the information - but it didn't help. I'm stuck with not being able to remove the view permission. Any idea how to get rid of the very top navigation bar? It is showing:
Home   Documents and Lists   Create   Site Settings   Help
that would help to limit movement  in the site. I’d also like to be able to change the text in one of the screens – currently shows:
Items on this list require content approval. Your submission will not appear in public views until approved by someone with proper rights. More information on content approval.

Any idea how I can change that text?
