"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

- Supports Cisco Proprietary standards (PVST+/CDP/DTP etc...)
- Doesn't do static routing (As far as I can see)

- Supports some Cisco protocols (CDP)
- Otherwise uses industry standardised protocols (LLDP/LACP/MSTP)
- Does Layer 3 static routing
- Lifetime warranty

Unless i am mistaken the HP 2724 is a basic, unmanaged switch. Means you just plug it in, and that's is.

There are a number of different 2960's available, so u will need to be more specific if you would like more information about it (f.e. WS-C2960-48TC-L). More information here:

If u have to choose between the two, it really depends on what kind of network you want to run. If it is a small, simple network (f.e. 1 server,1 gateway & 10 PC's) the HP will do fine. In larger networks, i would advise against unmanageable switches, you really want to have some control over the flow of data in your network (vlan's, etherchannels, etc...)
