Copy Formula in Excel 2007

I have a spreadsheet and when I copy a formula and paste it to the next cell down the number is now gone from I22 to I23. I then have to go in and change the number to I22 and the whole formula changes not just the first number but the whole formula. I want to copy and paste the formula multiple times, exactly as it is in the original cell.

Use the $ to fix an absolute reference.

For example, instead of:

    =3*I22

use:

   =3*I$22

That will keep the row reference absolute if you copy it anywhere.  To keep the whole thing absolute:

    =3*$I$22
