Exhange 2010 + Exchange-Active-Sync Error: An HTTP 500 response was returned from ISA

When I attempt to test the active-sync setting with https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ I get the following error:

Http Authentication Test failed

      Additional Details
An HTTP 500 response was returned from ISA

If I attempt the active sync on my iphone over wireless within our LAN, the phone syncs no problem

Anyone have any initial thoughts. (I have already recreated the active sync directory to no avail)

Thanks

"        An HTTP 500 response was returned from ISA"

your problem is from ISA server, can you access OWA normally ?

is RPC and OWA the same publishing rule or 2 different ?

if you try to go to https://mail.domain.com/Microsoft-ActiveSync-Server what is the result ?

Well that tells me something:
The page cannot be displayed
Explanation: There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
Try the following:

    * Refresh page: Search for the page again by clicking the Refresh button. The timeout may have occurred due to Internet congestion.
    * Check spelling: Check that you typed the Web page address correctly. The address may have been mistyped.
    * Access from a link: If there is a link to the page you are looking for, try accessing the page from that link.

Technical Information (for support personnel)

    * Error Code: 500 Internal Server Error. The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted. (-2146893019)

I am now going through my juniper box which is what I actually want anyway. But tried ISA because I was getting the error:
External DNS: points mail.domain.com to 207.7.**.*** Which has a wild card Cert from DigiCert *.domain.com. which forwards the request internally to the exchange server which has a self signed cert  mail.domain.com.

I am going to check all the certs and see what I can find.

I have been on the phone with Digicert and sorted out the cert issue, so thanks for that tip....now I am simply getting an

S

when I go to

https://mail.domain.com//Microsoft-Server-Activesync/

from a browser

But the phone is syncing! despite the 'S' and despite the fact I get:

Testing Http Authentication Methods for URL https://mail.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-Activesync/
       Http Authentication Test failed

      Additional Details
An HTTP 500 response was returned from Unknown

 from https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/

Odd!
