Sharepoint Document Library Copy

I need to make a copy of an existing document library within Sharepoint 2007, but I need to retain all custom metadata, including sub-folders with their permissions that are located within the library.

If I do a simple copy using explorer view I lose all the metadata and folder permissions. If I use Site Content and Structure to select the document library to copy the "Copy" and "Move" actions are greyed out.

I wear a lot of hats...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Depending on how large the document library is, have you tried saving it as a template to include content?  I am not sure if it will keep all of the information that you need / want, but i could be an option...

Unfortunately the library is over the 10mb limit to use that option.

How about backup from SharePoint Designer?  You can run a command to change the limit?

I ended up modify the template limit to the size required, saved the document library as a template including content, created the new library from the template then changed the size limit back to the default.

You can save the whole site as a template. The size can be increased up to 500 Mb
