I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you able to ping the domain and the domain controller(s)?

Avi LeibzonAuthor Commented:
yes, no problem with ping. I can also access the server via windows //server

can connect to network printers.

i think it might be the firewall. I have a netgear FVS336G installed recently.

could that be causing the issue?

when i do an Ipconfig  /all.  I get primary dns 192.168.1.5 as the server
and secondary dns 192.168.1.1

its so random, though. was able to connect a new machine yesterday. but not the other. all on the same switch into the same firewall

192.168.1.1 is the firewall its a dual wan. with wan 1 3m copper and wan2 as backup dsl.

it is running dhcp 192.168.1.50-199
dns: 192.168.1.5

Interesting, then I guess manually entering the DNS and WINS in the TCP/IP settings should fix that.
