SQL 2008 Job Notification Email Fails When Running SQLCMD Files

I am using SQLCMD batch files in jobs that move data between different SQL 2008 instances. My job notifications for all other jobs work, but for these I can't even get the notification that the job completed to send. Initially the job would not even show as failed even though the log file had errors in it. I added in the -b -V 1  switches and now the job will show as failed if it there is an error in the SQLCMD tasks. But still no notifications. Anyone have any experience with this?

Not exactly like this..
Check whethe the job is running correctly and finishes on time..
Try applying SP1 for SQL Server 2008 and check out.

Also try recreating the job after deleting it once to confirm whether you are obtaining the same error or not..

Problem was that the particular instance running the job hadn't had it's mail profile for the alert system enabled. All other alerts that were being sent for jobs under this instance were generated from within the processes themselves and not by the alert system so it only looked like the alert system was sending messages.

Enabled the alert system profile on this SQL instance. Restarted SQL Agent.
