Installing GFI MailEssentials for Disclaimer function

I have installed GFI MailEssentials with default settings, and configured the Disclaimer for domain.

My intention is to only use the disclaimer function, which I have been told is still available even after 30 day trial expires. My concern is that with the other services running (antispam etc.) there are other processes going on.

Can anyone assist as far as disabling everything except for Disclaimer?

Hi Flipp,

As far as my understanding goes, The GFI mail Essentials will stop all services except the Disclaimer when the trial period is over. According to GFI Support no User action is required. The core services will keep running which are essential for GFI engine fo run the Disclaimer service.

That is fine ..... when it expires, but I have the issue that incoming mail is now being processed on the server as I type. Ideally I would like to disable all other services now, or I will have to uninstall.

Help!

Hi Hilal .... thank you for getting in contact with the Support Team. So I understand that you have to install GFI MailEssentials (which contains the disclaimer function), but as with the default install, this product is now my anti-spam, phishing tool. This is not what I want to happen, as now I have a completely new product taking care of all this when I already have this installed with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
I have just disabled all the services that begin with GFI from services snap-in and disclaimer appears to still work. I am just trying to find someone who can confirm that this is the correct behaviour.
Yes, once the product expires, everything is disabled, but I dont have 10 days as this is my production server.

You can Unregister the SMTP Sinks but I think that will also remove the disclaimer Sink as well.  what you have done seems good approach but the sinks will still rmain there. Summary is that What you have done is a workaround and If it works for you, it is good enough. And as far as my Knowledge about SMTP sinks go, this should be Just fine.

Hilal

After disabling all services starting with GFI, I then need to set service 'GFI MailEssentials Scan Engine' to Manual so when I send the initial email the service starts and the disclaimer starts up.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi, I am sorry bro, but I don't think there are many resources on this.

Thank you everyone for your responses.

After contacting the GFI Helpdesk again, the final answer is to use the start_snks.cmd and stop_snks.cmd to disable the product from scanning and affecting incoming.outgoing emails.

The other method I came up with was to disable all GFI services except "GFI MailEssentials Scan Engine". I also had disabled all other GFI functions except the Disclaimer function just to be sure.

Ultimately I would recommend to re-test the above processes to see what works best.
