I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,
the DHCP service does not required the CAL.
it is basically based on the SERVER OS CAL...!

prem, i am not sure that you are right.
You would need your standard amount of CALs however for any Microsoft software interaction to be legal

Lost_enigma,
I think you are not sure about the CAL..

DHCP service will be the part of the OS licence.. it does not need any additional CAL.

Again i am telling that this is based on the number of CAL license you buy for the OS.

one more time. we are talking about different things.
DHCP do not require additional licences!
i mean any connections to the server - should be licensed.
if he has only 50  CAL per user licenses, and all of them are using with domain or exchange etc,
BUT he has 80 devices for DHCP server - then he should buy additional 30 licenses. and no matter if they use AD or exchange or ONLY DHCP services.
