Microsoft Office 2007 - update breaks access

After updating office 2007, I can no longer access the programs. It keeps giving the the error: "Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application". Then when I try to either repair or install, it doesn't.

This just started happening after rebooting when some updates to office 2007 were installed. How do I get it to run?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can try system restore (Start-Help and Support) to a point before the update to get Word working again. If you uploaded multiple updates, try again one at a time.

This was really a permissions error. When I shut UAC off and then changed the permissions on the folders of Microsoft office in the Programs Files directory, office started working again
