Does 87 Processes sound right in Windows 7 Task Manager?

Hi Experts.

I am the local UNQUALIFIED neighborghood  Computer repair man.  I am working on my 1st Windows 7 lmachine that is 3 weeks old.

Owner is a 1st time computer  and has absolutely ravaged the set up process.  He speaks very little English and the entire laptop is setup wrong.  Sound, Video, Wi Fi, EVERYTHING.  I am probably going to restore to factory defaults, but I am curious-----

For now, THE QUESTION IS:  Should there be 87 processes listed in the task manager on a 3 week old laptop?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what the machine is doing at the time, but it's possible.

If the laptop has been installed so that all the manufacturers apps are present then that'd be about believable.

More so if he has been installing apps and allowing them to add themselves to Windows startup.

That is quite a few processes regardless of the age of machine.  Could be more related to oem istalled garbage that come with all pre-build systems and what is loading at startup.  I would go to msconfig and configure your startup to only what is necessary.  Also go to services and check the box "Hide all Microsoft Services" and shut down what he doesnt need running.  For example I have two for my anti-virus running, and NMSAccessU (which gives non-admins cd/dvd control) and that is all.  He also could have malware going on so some scans would be in order.  Good Luck!!

I reinstalled and the acer 5517 starts out with 59 processes without limewire and itunes, etc, so i can see 89 is attainable in a short time
thanks everyone
