Exchange 2007 NDR

we have a new Exchange 2007 setup and users can receive e-mail fine but some users cannot send, reply or forward e-mail. This is the error message that they receive

even better still some users when they use outlook they get the same error as above but when using OWA, there is no error. While others get the error just using OWA. While still other users can send and receive with no issues at all.

I am using DNS to send as when I try to use a smarthost like in Exchange 2003, mail goes no where. This is really starting to bother me and users are b*tching.........

Probably you had this user created once and was deleted and recreated again, this is outlook cache issue

I tried that Akhater and when I retyped in the address fresh still received the error..But this does not explain why OWA works and Outlook does not.

OWA uses the Address Book, outlook uses the OAB

if you tried to clear the NK2 cache and the issue remained then you have a problem in you OAB

If sdgcounties.ca is external to your Exchange server, make sure it is not listed under accepted domains in your Exchange, I have seen this cause this kind of issue as Exchange believes it is authoritative for a domain where it is not.

Check on Exchange MAnagement Console --> Organisation Config --> Hub Transport --> Accepted Domains and make sure ony your own domain name(s) is listed here.

shaun sdgcounties.ca is external to the domain and under accepted domains sdglibrary.ca and sdglibrary.local

I had set up an account called tunderwood@sdglibrary.ca, but my main e-mail was tunderwood@sdgcounties.ca. Whne users were sending to tunderwood@sdgcounties.ca it was going to sdglibrary.ca and not to my mine e-mail even thought they were typing in tunderwood@sdgcounties.ca

I reconnected tunderwood@sdglibrary.ca and I can send from it but I cannot receive.

Did you setup a NEW profile in outlook a brand new one with a new test user ?

If it is working from OWA and externally it can only be an OAB issue or a NK2 cache

I setup a mail enabled connection so all e-mail that is sent to tunderwood@sdglibrary.ca get forwarded to tunderwood@sdgcounties.ca and now all e-mail no matter where it is destined for is going to me not the inteneded recipient.

I tried again and set up a brand new user in exchange, I went to the problem users pc and removed their exchange account. I added the new user and viola could send and receive. I then removed the test user and added the original user back and there is (so far) no issues sending or receiving.

Akhater,

bad news it only worked for about an 1 hour and then the same issues cropped up again. I fixed it this time and it seems to be working but it was a long process.

1. removed user from Domain and Exchange
2. add user back to Domain and then add to exchange
3. fix roaming profile
4. setup Outlook
5. send test e-mails all went through

If this is still working tomorrow I will have to do the same for 4 more users. Something must have happened to these users during the change over as they had Outlook accounts using POP3 from ISP prior to Exchange.

That did no work either, after a few e-mails, this morning back to NDR's for both Outlook and OWA. It is now narrowed down to 3 users only that cannot send from outlook or OWA.

Called Microsoft Support found a corrupt transport agent, got rid of it and mail is flowing as it should.
