Pet toy distributor/retailer price breakdown

I would like to work with a distributor to bring my pet toy to the market, and am trying to figure out how much of the retail price the distributor, retailer, and I would each receive.  If you can, please provide as much information as possible on the steps involved in the process.  If you don't have any information about the pet industry, figures for regular toys would be a useful reference.

In general, a middleman such as a distributor, gets a 5 percent after-sale service comission.  That's according to Erica Barkemeyer, a business owner, merchandiser, consultant and author.  Retailers take a percentage of the retail price, which can vary widely depending upon many factors.  Sometimes as low as 1 or 2 percent, or as high as 30 or 40 percent.  Talk with store owners to find out what their cut might be.
Hope it helps.

A somewhat related follow-up question: would you happen to know the typical markup for a wholesaler (such as Walmart, etc.)?
