"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Go to My Computer, Tools->Disconnect Network Drives to clear whatever connections it is trying to establish, see if this solves the problem.
Do you have any printers, or other forms of networked hardware installed? And if so, are they still connected?
Also, any "mapped network drives"? Delete any mapped networked drives
Firstly, make sure your NIC drivers are updated. Then enter the following into a command prompt window running as administrator.

netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns

then reboot.
