Database Mirroring login attempt failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (80090311) 0x80090311(No authority could be contacted for authentication.). State 67.'.

Hi,

It's normal to receive db mirroring active/inactive messages in the our SQL error log. But after the following errors appeared, the mirroring failed to resume. No more active/inactive messages. We had to restart the mirror server and reconfigure mirroring.

Database Mirroring login attempt failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (80090311) 0x80090311(No authority could be contacted for authentication.). State 67.'.

I suspect there was something wrong in DC because I got the same error from 2 different servers at the same time.  What does the error mean?

It looks like you have issues with credentials.
Ensure that you work with the same set of accounts for your mirror.

the principal and mirror have their own service accounts but have sysadmin rights in both users

Could it be that your mirror SQL instances aren't authenticating with the domain controller?
Kindly run this from the command prompt and let me know how it goes:

gpupdate

No switches please.
After running it, look at the event logs in event viewer and see if there are any errors.
