How do I fix my backup schedule? - Backup Exec 11d(SP3)

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

Let me paint the scenario and the question (as brief as I can be):

We have a external backup tape device that runs Backup Exec 11d (SP3) Incremental-daily 19.00pm, full weekly and full monthly from our DC. Everything worked fine. Then we had to recover files from a previous tape. We selected hold schedule on current jobs so it doesn't run when we insert the older tape. We inserted the tape and the "on hold" job started running. We selected hold again, then cancel and then ran eject job on the tape. Tape ejected and wrote over data we wanted to recover - let's leave it there, data is gone.
The problem is, now when we run our normal backup, it fails. It runs almost 90% complete and fails with the message:
"e000035e - The Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft Exchange was not used to create the last full backup of this database.  You must use the Exchange Agent to run a full backup before you run a differential or incremental backup.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-862"

It looks like it is failing at - Microsoft Information Store - First Storage Group

Help from Symantec's site was fruitless. We tried to run a command VSS ADMIN - list writers and restarting both DC and Exchange, everything looked ok but failed again. We got a possible solution, but I am sceptic, it's hotfix 38 for SP2 -we run SP3.

Test run and Test all (selection list) runs 100% but backup fail.

Please any help will be appreciated, we are stuck.

You can try running the hotfix.  If this is already integrated into SP£ it will tell you that it will not run.

Create a new job and see if it works, so you can identify whether its the job or something else.  Otherwise, try running an NTBackup to see if its a BAckupExec problem or something with Exchange.

Let us know how you get on.

Sorry, I have to take issue with the above comment.  BackupExec does nto work that way.  It keeps all its config settings and also saves the scheduled jobs to a local SQL database.  To achieve what you indicate you would have to remove all of the above and you would end up having to recreate the schedules from scratch.

Far from being the fastest way, this would probably be the slowest by far.  14 years of working with BackupExec and Arcserve in full disaster recovery conditions has taught me never to follow that route  unless there has been a installation failure caused by the hard disk its installed on failing.  In fact, I have even overcome that this week without reinstalling.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours, but it is definitely something I would not recommend.

Advice was given, whether that advice was taken was irrelevent.
