Windows Update greyed out sbs 2008

I have several updates that are not installing and the Windows Update automatic feature is completely greyed out.  I need to find a way to install these updates on Small Business Server 2008 Standard

In Group Policy Management under Domains you have 3 'Update Services' entries - for Client Computers, Common Settings and Server Computers.

You need to unset Automatic Updates in both Common Settings and Server Computers for Update Services:

- Right click 'Small Business Server Update Services Common Settings Policy' and Edit
- Navigate to 'Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update'
- Double click 'Configure Automatic Updates' on the right and set to 'Not Configured' and ok then close that window.

Repeat for 'Small Business Server Update Services Server

Can you try opening regedit navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
Change the value "NoWindowsUpdate" to "0"
The first post would cause Windows Updates link to be unavailable.

If it is greyed out then please try the registry change I have posted above.

Thanks JVFLY23, I had already tried that and it made my situation worse.

Thanks Demazter:  I don't see  "NoWindowsUpdate" as an option.
Can you do a search for the value under hkey_current_user
No it is not found anywhere in my registry.  Can this be added to registry?  If so, how?
I did find that the NoWindowUpdate only applies to Server 2003 and not to SBS 2008
Small Business Server 2008 Problem with Update

Found a solution but can't get it to work without Windows Update working...

Does anyone have the update file?
This is for WSUS.

The NoWindowsUpdate does apply for SBS2008 I had an instance a few weeks ago where it caused a problem.

Can you try adding the value and see what happens?

Thanks for the responses, The NoWindowsUpdate is not found and when adding the value in Registry it doesn't work.

I will check dstewartjr on your solution to see if it is a fix.
WSUS installation worked
