how do I change the HWaddr of my linux box?

/sbin/ifconfig -a
eth0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:20:7E:A8:04:0E
        inet addr:11:111:0:45  Bcase:11:111:0:255

# ifconfig eth0 down
# ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:80:48:BA:d1:30
# ifconfig eth0 up
# ifconfig eth0 |grep HWaddr

To make changes permanent, edit the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and put there line:


If this file has a line with HWADDR, delete it.
Restart network service after that:

/etc/init.d/network restart
