how to shutdown linux server

How can I shutdown a linux server ?

When i use init 0 command, it shuts down but gives a message on console "now you can power off the button"

However I want system to completely turn off ...including chasis. Since I am remotely shutting down, I do not want anyone to be there to push power button off

shutdown -h should work.  What distro and version are you running?

I am using redhat AS 5
Init 0 is defined as the HALT run level.  Not a reboot command.  Try the shutdown -h and let me know.
shutdown now -P
