Differences between HSRP and VRRP and when best to use one or the other

I have been googling HSRP vs. VRRP links but I don´t really see any major implementation differences.   Can anyone advise what the most important differences are and in what scenarios you would use one vs. the other?

  Thanks for all the help.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

HSRP in Cisco proprietary while VRRP is an industry standard.

Functionally, they do the same thing.

Much like EIGRP vs. OSPF for routing protocols
LACP vs. PAgP for etherchannel
STP vs. PVSTP for Spanning-Tree.

If you have any non-Cisco equipment, VRRP would be a better choice. If you have all Cisco, then it's up to you.
