Event Watcher Task

I have two things that i need to perform in my SSIS package and they are both related to events that need to occurr before my package kicks off

1. Wait for a text file to show up to kick off my job. I know that there is a "File Watcher Task" that is available but I am unable to install anything on a production server does anyone know of an alternative that would provide the same functionality. I know that you can use the for loop container but it does not work for a file that does not already exist. I need it to wait for the file and when it show up to start the job. The file is also on a network drive which makes this difficult also.

2. I have a record in a table that shows up and I need to monitor this table and kick off the job when the record is inserted into the table.

Does anyone have any ides on these two items?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

this is good scenario:

   1. Create a Windows Service
   2. Use System.IO.FileSystemWatcher to monitor the directory and subdirectories for changes
   3. Launch SSIS packages programmatically from the Windows ServiceCreate a Windows Service

I saw the WMI EVENT WATCHER but this does not work well with the UNC path.

could you make a network map drive, and test it with this instead of UNC path?

I think that for that peice of it i am going to try this example

and then have the job schedular run every 15 minutes to check for the file.

It is good scenario too,
the sample package you referred will check if the file exists or not,
now you can run this package on a schedule, this scheduling can be a job scheduling or service scheduling .
