Duplex Printing issue in MS Word within Citrix Presentation Server

Environment Information:
OS : Windows Server 2003 STD Edition, 32 Bit
Office : MS Word 2003
Color Printer : Laserjet CP3525x
Driver used : HP Color Laserjet 3505 Printer Drivers
Citrix: Presentation Server v4.5

User wants to print document's first page in letter head format from Tray 2, Rest of the pages from tray 3 should be printed in plain A4 pages.Printing should be in duplex mode.

Troubleshooting done by us so far:
1. We have set the same settings on the printer using the preferences option. (Selecting the above setup but it didn't work)
2. This works fine if we give the setting on Word/Excel Page Setup option but the problem is user has to do this everytime he opens the application. He wants the settings to get saved.
3. Also he doesn't have this option on powerpoint and would like to have this option.

1. Please let me know what exact changes should be done either on the server or at the printer end.
2. Also we need this setup on the Citrix application too. W.r.t Citrix, users are using Mandatory roaming profiles.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You are configuring it under you credentials not his.

Login to the server as the user in a terminal server session, you may need to allow the user access temporarily. Configure the printer as required and log back out.

Is this a color laserjet 3505xh? Just want to confirm that its on the hardware compatibility list with terminal services. I would try changing the driver to a more common HP driver and then check each setting

1. Does it print to tray 2 first?
2. Do subsequent pages print from Tray 3 in A4?
3. Does it do the duplexing?

May need to do a print policy as well.

Should be able to narrow down the issue from there.

Update : When we create a new docx or xlsx file in Word/Excel 2007 and change the printer tray settings, the settings get saved only till the files are saved to the desktop or other location. Moment we delete the xlsx or docx file, the printer tray settings reset themselves to the default settings.

Any ideas as to why this is happening ?

Create a new file and save as a template.
Then all new files will be based on the template.

I feel that the suggested template option would be viable for new documents.
Can something be done for the old documents ?
You will not be able to apply templates going back.
Have you tried setting up the printer as the user?
Also, are you printing to a printer installed under that user, or a printer created by the terminal session coming from the client pc?
vmwarun - ArunAuthor Commented:
Please update whether any changes could be made at the printer's end so that the changes are permanently saved.
The driver needs to be configured on the server, not the printer itself.
You can check the printer manual to see if it has an override. Check with the manufacturer to see if they can guide you through the steps of setting this.
