Send Windows Message to Windows Application From JavaScript in asp.net application

Does anyone know if it's possible to send a windows application a message from javascript.

I have an asp.net web application that integrates to a windows application running on the client's machine where the web browser is running the asp.net application.

When the user selects a record from a gridview in the web application I need to send a windows message to the client application to tell it which record was selected in the browser application.

If it's possible, I expect that it will require javascript to send the message to the windows client application.   Any ideas?

Javascript cannot interact with the host client by design for security reasons.  Can you imagine how dangerous the web would be if it could?  Web sites are built to work in a sandbox created by the browser and have no access to the client by design.

If sounds like you should be building a 'Smart Client' application instead. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998506.aspx
