Wireless won't connect on Windows 7 machine

User has a Gateway laptop model p-683-fx.  The wireless connects to the available wireless internet connection in the house, but it says "Access: Local only" If I do windows network diagnostics, it says "There may be a problem with your DNS configuration"

I've tried restarting several times, disabling IPv6, resetting the wireless network adapter, and making sure the DNS client was running in windows services.  Anyone have any ideas here? Thanks...

I have a friend who has had this problem:
Completely remove the driver and let Windows install it automatically.
Go to "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections"
Right click your wireless adapter -> properties -> configure -> driver -> uninstall.
Reboot, and it should be gone.

I had this trouble with an older wireless adapter once.  I never did find out the definitive cause and I finally ended up purchasing a new wireless adapter and the problem completely went away.

I also remember at one point changing the WPA settings which seemed to alleviate some of the symptoms (can't remember exactly, but it seems like I went from WPA2 to WPA or something of that nature).
