Can't change my wallpaper under windows xp

My PC was infected with a virus which has been cleaned.  System Restore was turned off during the clean process so I do not have any restore points.  Everything is working great now except I can't change the wallpaper on my desktop.  When I click on Properties and go to Desktop, the various backgrounds are displayed but I can't choose any of them.  The window is scrolled to the bottom of the list and I can't move the scroll bar up.  I also can't select any of the backgrounds that are shown.  I tried creating a new user to see if the problem was specific to this user and I wasn't able to change the background for the new user.  I also restarted into Safe Mode and logged in as Administrator and I still couldn't change the background.

I ran Registry Booster and it did find errors in the registry and fixed them.  I ran it again and it found 4 errors.  I keep running it and it finds the same 4 errors each time.  I tried to remove the registry entries manually using regedit but I can't remove them - I get a message to the effect that the key can not be removed.   The errors are as follows:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{2fc8f894.....91489511b40C}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{957191F2.....87D562930EA9}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{C2EF276A....29F129EB826E}
Missing CLSID {00020424....0046}

If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem is I would appreciate all help.

  1. Click Start
   2. Click Run
   3. Type: regedit
   4. Navigate to the following registry entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

      “Wallpaper”=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html (yours might be slightly different)
   5. Click one time on the entry
   6. Push Delete on the keyboard
   7. Click Yes
   8. Close the Registry editor
