I tried the code on the msdn site here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd490727.aspx

but it is not recognizing SPSite,SPWeb classes  and I cannot add Microsoft.Sharepoint.dll to the referances because it says silverlight application does not accept other dll s or something like that.. what should i do ...i tried to add a sharepoint project to my silverlight project now but then i dont know if I can achieve it this way??

Can you go more specific? I have never written a webservice before how can i go with it? is there any sample code where it shows an access to document library... how long would it take for a beginner like me to write a webservice to access document library and grab images and then call it from a silverlight application and maek things work.. i really need a step by step guidance you think there is any source for that?

u ll not write a webservice..

U ll use the web service of the sharepoint..

In Solution manager under web services or references u can add a web reference..

under  advanced button u ll see add web service.. then u ll put Sharepoint web service and u can use lists.asmx

url must be something like this http://sharepointur/site/_layout/lists.asmx if no sub site is  declared then delete /site and try again..

u can find details about sharepoint web services at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms479390.aspx
