Hi,

"Standard" destination adapters are effectively macros that literally automate windows, button clicks, and data entry in GP.  They allow IM to utilize all of the business logic and data validation in GP, but they require that GP be open and logged in when the integration is run.

"SQL Optimized" destination adapaters utilize SQL stored procedures (I believe they now all utilize eConnect stored procs).  These destination adapters go directly against the database and do not rely on the GP user interface, so they run much faster and do not require GP to be running during the integration.  The downside is that not many transaction types are supported by SQL adapters, and those that do have some limitations.  For example, I think that SOP Transactions don't support serial and lot numbers with the SQL destination adapters, so if you need that functionality, you would have to use the standard adapter.

As eConnect and Web Services matures, I suspect that IM may eventually migrate more adapters to SQL optimized, but I've been thinking that for years and it doesn't seem to be happening.

Thanks,
