Exchange 2007 to 2010 migration - DC on same server

Currently we have a 2003 R2 DC with Exchange 2007 on it.
But we would like to upgrade to Exchange 2010. No I know that an inplace upgrade isn't possible, so I've worked out a little upgrade plan.

Migrate current DC & Exchange to a virtual machine
Build new 2008R2 server
Add 2008R2 to the domain as secondary DC
Install Exchange 2010
Migrate the mailboxes with the wizard
Uninstall Exchange 2007 on the virtual
Unauthorize the first DC and let the second new take over.

Now this is a summary, I have a lot more steps then this. Most of them come from here http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/47778 with a mix of technet articles

But is this all necessairy or is there an quicker/easier way to do the migration when the Exchange 2007 is installed on the same server as the domain controller?

You have it right.
You MUST make the server a domain controller before you install Exchange 2010.
You MUST uninstall Exchange 2007 before you demote the existing DC.

Apart from that it looks good.
