client printer error "Failed to get device status information" but server can print

We have a server that can print fine - but the clients all say "Failed to get device status information". I have changed the port config, the driver, the share name, anything that would make it a fully different printer.
It worked last week but this week it wont.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Were any patches or updates loaded on the server between when it worked and when it didn't?

yes there was. We had to restart the server with patch tuesday and since it has worked fine.
This happens from updates keeping services in waiting ?

gave me the idea to wait and see if restarting it after patches would help - it did
