"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

While in Word 2007:

Go to Insert > and then click "Date and Time"

There it will have a list of formats you can use.

Insert | Field | Date

The default should be a field that updates to the current machine date with each Update of all fields. Fields are updated automatically when the document is printed, but may not be caught if the field is in a header or footer; that can easily be addressed if that's part of your problem.
