I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why do you want to do this?

Regarding what you ask, you can't view configuration settings simply by opening the individual file itself with any viewer that I know of.  If you've lost the admin password, then you can reset the sonicwall to factory defaults and restore the backup.  The sonicwall password is not restored with a backup.  So, if you've not reset the sonicwall password after a factory reset, then it should still be password.

If you want just a hard copy of the configuration, then you can generate a TSR.

Digital is correct. Only SonicWALL TAC can decrypt and read backup files. The only way to see the settings is via the Tech Support Report which has the exact same information ;)
